Doodles
Haven't done much drawing lately except for design sketches at work, so I finally did some doodles... Watercolor and waterproof ink. Roughly 3x5 inches.

Calily Sketch

I did this quick sketch on a tablet PC (yes I said PC). I do almost everything on the Mac except sketching. I'm doing this blog on a Mac. Considering how many artists use Macs, where's there tablet? Coming soon I hope...

Skull Sketch
Keeping with the Halloween time of year, another skull sketch. I love working from the skull model I picked up at "Evolution" downtown. It's great to have reference.

Skull Sketch

Skull drawn from model. Fountain pen with waterproof ink and watercolor on Moleskine watercolor sketchbook paper. Noodler's bulletproof black ink is the first waterproof ink I've found that doesn't clog my fountain pens.

This was a break from a painting that I've been putting a lot of time into. I really wanted to get a quick, loose, bright piece out of my system so I could get back to my other piece.

More fun with watercolors and ink. Not totally happy with results. I'll probably try re-painting a couple times with different backgrounds, etc. Not bad for the first sketch though.

Finally did something related to everydaymatters challenges - #43: Draw something ceramic. It was an interesting angle that caught my eye - a straight-on view with only shades of gray indicating depth of the handle on the mug.

Loopy Kid Sketchbook

Here's a finished hand-bound sketchbook (links take you to my Flickr site). Roughly 3.25" x 5.25" - small moleskine size. I really like this stitched binding style because the notebook lays flat when using. Covers made out of museum board, gessoed and painted with acrylics. Gloss varnish finish. Paper is a light parchment style - adds kind of a nice rich feel to those sketches.

Testing Flock
Very Cool.
I'm testing out the features of Flock - the new web browser that kind of brings RSS and blogging and browsing all together. This post was done using the Flickr topbar feature to easily drag images into a blog post, and create the blog entry right from my browser. Get flock here.

I was trying to loosen up just a little on this piece. I tried to play around with just mushing colors around, letting them mingle more and just try something different. You can also view more at my flickr site here.

Skull Sketch 08/06/2005
![]()
Sometimes I don't care what I draw, sketch, doodle. When I can't think of anything, I usually end up drawing robots, skulls or flowers (or some combination). The way I look at it, I don't need some great inspiration as long as I just keep doing. Eventually the work will get better, and by then maybe I'll know what to paint...

Robot Moleskine
OK, so I couldn't resist after reading all the hype. I bought a Moleskine sketchbook. This is my first attempt with watercolor in it. I love the book, love the paper weight, but it felt like I was painting on waxed paper. In the end, I love how the texture turned out. I'm tempted to try scrubbing the page a bit first to see if the paint floats less.

Broccoli Still Life
Haven't done much still life drawing for a while. Kind of got lost in these bunches of broccoli. It's interesting how when you're drawing you can get lost in it. The branches, stalks, etc. almost seemed like a forest at times with dark hollows and hidden paths. Sketched in pencil.
